Faithfulness: Part 2 - He's Proven Faithful

"We can believe in God because He is believable, we can have faith in Him because He is faithful!" "God is faithful whether or not we believe Him! He will do what He promised!"
Beth Moore Living Beyond Yourself

The Bible tells us that "Faith is the assurance of things hoped for and the conviction of things not seen" (Hebrews 11:1)

Lets start with a few simple questions:
~ What do you hope for (or in)?
~ Are you certain of what you hope for?
As Christians we are called to put our hope in the Lord. So the questions is:
~ Are you certain (absolutely positive) of who God is and what you know about Him?
~ Do you believe what God says about Himself and the promises that he has declared for you?

Regardless of how you answered the above questions, God is who He says He is. In spite of some of our flawed beliefs and struggles of faith, God remains God - Lord of heaven and earth - all powerful, all knowing, all-present, all-loving..... He is everything He says He is.

Our faith can only be as strong as the person (or thing) that we have faith in. So the question is asked: Is God as faithful as we hope He is? Can we be certain that God is as good as we think He is? Is what we read in the Bible about Him true? Beloved, praise His holy name because we can be sure!! He is faithful, and He has proven Himself to be true.

We know our God to be believable for many reasons, but the one I chose to focus on today was God's gift of prophesy in our Bible. Prophesy is one of the primary things that sets our Bible (and God) apart from other books and religions in the world. We live in a very blessed time. We have at our fingertips, the infallible Word of God that has proven itself reputable and true. I know that in the past I have often overlooked the greatness of what prophesy is and what it means. We take it for granted. However, the reality is that what we are reading was written over thousands of years ago, and it predicted things that could not POSSIBLY have been guessed or coincidence.

I went back and read and keyed in my Bible a few of the OT prophesies of Jesus. It's a reminder to me that God's word is proven, factual and true!! I want to share with you some of what I found. In bold are the prophesies followed by where the original prophesy is found and then where the fulfillment is found in scripture.

He would be God's Son- Pslam 2:7; Mark 1:1
He would enter into the temple Malachi 3:1, Luke 1:35 (by the way the temple was destroyed in 70 A.D. so whoever the messiah was had to have come before that)
He would be Born Emmanuel, of a virgin- Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:23; Luke 1:35
He would be a descendant from Abraham- Genesis 12:2, 15:5, 17:2; Matthew 1:2, 1:16, 18-25
.... from David in the Tribe of Judah- Samuel 7:8-16; Psalm 89:20-38, 132; Jeremiah 23:5-6; Genesis 49:10; Isaiah 9:6; Matthew 1:6, 16, 18-25; Matthew 4:7; Mark 11:9-10; Luke 1:32
He would be Born in Bethlehem- Micah 5:1; 2 Samuel 5:2; Matthew 2:1, 5-6
His birth would be announced By a Star- Numbers 24:17; Matthew 2:2
He would Come out of Egypt- Hosea 11:1; Matthew 2:15
He would be called a Nazarene- Isaiah 66:19; Matthew 2:23
His way would be prepared from one in the Desert- Isaiah 40:3, Malachi 3:1;Matthew 3:3 Matthew 11:10
The Spirit of the Lord would come to rest on Him- Isaiah 11:2; Matthew 3:16-17
He would teach by Means of Parables- Psalm 78:2; Matthew 13:10-11 He would heal the Eyes of the Blind- Isaiah 42:7; John 9
He would enter Jerusalem riding a donkey Isaiah 62:11; Zechariah 9:9; Matthew 21:5
He would be betrayed be a Companion- Pslam 41:10; John 13:18
.... for thirty Pieces of Silver- Zechariah 11:12-13; Matthew 26:31
He would be silent before His accusers- Isaiah 53:7; Matthew 26:63
His robe would be taken and gambled for Psalm 22:19; Matthew 27:35
He would endure public Humiliation- Isaiah 52:14; John 19:5
.... be Insulted- Psalm 22:8; Matthew 27:39
.... be taunted for His Reliance on God- Psalm 22:8; Matthew 27:43
.... feel Forsaken- Psalm 22:2; Matthew 27:46
.... be abandoned- Psalm 69:21; Matthew 27:49
He would thirst on the Cross- Psalm 69:22, 22:16; John 19:28-30
.... be pierced by a Sword (Lancea)- Psalm 22:20; John 19:34
.... be Killed without His Bones being Broken- Exodus 12:46; Numbers 9:12; Psalm 34:19-20; John 19:36
Although He was poor he would be buried in a rich man's Tomb- Isaiah 53:9; Matthew 27:59-60

Isn't our God UNBELIEVABLY AMAZING! Our savior fulfilled over 61 prophesies that were prophesied a minimum of 400 years (up to 2000 years) before He was ever even born! The odds of that happening are more than impossible (don't ask me to do the exact numbers, but it's WAY up there!!).

We may not understand much and God may keep some secrets from us, but He did give prophesy to prove who He is! These prophesies not only validate that Jesus is who He says He is, but that the Bible is in fact true, so we can read and meditate on the scripture knowing that they are God-breathed words, written to us, about Himself to strengthen, encourage, correct and teach.

Beloved, we can trust who He says He is because He has proved Himself to be true. Our God is Faithful.

He sure is faithful. I have been asked several times throughout my life to describe what God is to me in one word and it ALWAYS has been FAITHFUL!
